Mormugao Port Development

The project consisted of dredging the Entrance Channel, Turning Basin and approaches to berths of the Major Port of Mormugao for use by large Tankers and Bulk Carriers. The project also involved reclaiming a new area of approximately 40 acres from the sea, bounded by 2.5 kms. of reclamation bunds to accommodate new facilities and ancillary buildings.
HOWE were responsible for complete Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Planning & Design, Supervision of Construction and Project Management of the works.

- Oil Berth for 100,000 DWT Tankers on cribs partly cast on shore launched into sea and completed in floating condition and sunk in position
- All Buildings and Structures including Dumper House Building, Drive Houses, Sampling Plant, Administration Building, Maintenance Shops & Sub-station Buildings
- Railway Receiving and Despatching Yard
- Structural Steel Works for Conveyor Gallery, Dumper House, Drive Houses, Sampling Plant, Surge Bins etc. …… 3500 T
Client: Mechanical Works
The Ore Handling Plant was designed to handle 12 Million Tonnes yearly export of twelve different varieties of Iron Ore and Pellets. Computer-based Operational Model was used to simulate the plant’s operation to arrive at the optimum system which included:
- Dumper and Wagon Handling Equipment
- Barge Unloaders, Clamshell Type (8): 300 TPH each
- Stackers (3): 2500 TPH each
- Bucket-wheel Reclaimers (2): 4000 TPH each
- Shiploaders (2): 4000 TPH each
- Conveyor System, 7.7 kms: 2500/4000 TPH
- Weighing and Sampling Plant
- Cranes, Hoists and Auxiliary Equipment
- Hose Handling Tower and associated equipment for Oil Berth.
