Development of Multipurpose Terminal at Mundra

HOWE is involved into Greenfield Port development at Mundra from its inception. Mundra Port has three multipurpose terminals with twelve numbers of berths. The berths are capable of handling various types of dry bulk, break bulk and liquid cargo. These berths are designed to handle vessels having draft of 15.5 m.

The Mundra port handles a multitude of commodities including steam coal, coking coal, fertilizers like urea, DAP, MOP, etc.; agricultural commodities like yellow peas, DOC, wheat, etc.; liquid cargo including crude oil, POL, chemicals, dible oil, etc.; containers, auto-mobiles, steel cargo, project cargo and minerals.

Facilities at Berth

• Nos. Ostwald and 12 nos. Libber mobile harbor cranes SWL 100 MT with hook and grab mode.
• 2 rail-mounted mobile hoppers for direct discharge to import conveyors.
• 10 mobile hoppers for direct discharge into dumpers.
• 3.6 km conveyor system capable of handling 1,500 TPH of import as well as export cargo.

Equipment for Cargo Handling

Mundra port owns cargo handling equipment like mobile harbor cranes; grab ship loaders, pay loaders, excavators and conveyor system for handling of bulk and break-bulk cargo.

• 1 of 1000 TPH ship loader.
• 40 nos. excavators & 50 nos. loaders including 8 nos. CAT loaders.
• 60 nos. 40 ft. trailers for internal transportation.

Steel Cargo/ Break-bulk Handling Facilities

• 150,000 sq. m of dedicated storage area for various steel and project cargo.
• Seven number of Goliath cranes, with multiple vacuum pipe lifting attachments to expedite yard operations for various steel products.
• Liebherr mobile cranes: 2 nos. 25-tonne in hook mode & 15-tonne in pipe lifting attachment.
• 02 nos. Liebherr cranes with vacuum handling pipe attachments capable of handling 14 to 58 diameter pipes.
• 4 nos. 32-tonnes and 2 nos. 45-tonnes lifting capacity forklifts with multiple attachments for handling steel coils, plates and slabs.

Liquid Handling Facilities

• Equipped to handle and store crude, chemicals, edible oil with a pipeline network from jetty to storage terminal
• Terminal houses 100 tanks of different specifications
• Two SBM systems to handle Ultra Large Crude Carriers (ULCCs), with option to expand by two more
• Bunkering services for vessels

Facilities for Storage

The port has 225,000 sq. metres of closed godowns and 3,150,000 sq. metres of open storage yards for storage of imported or exported cargo within the port premises. It has also constructed mechanised bagging and loading facilities for efficient evacuation of cargo.
