Development of Coal Terminal at West Basin, Mundra

HOWE has supported the development of the India’s largest coal import terminal at west basin in Mundra, Gujarat, India for APSEZ. HOWE has worked from its inception of project which includes surveys, site selection, feasibility, basic & detail engineering, estimation, procurement, contracts, and whole ambit of quality construction management.

This terminal has a 60 MMTPA capacity and is operational since 2010. This new coal terminal is built to cater to the coal needs of two mega power plants viz UMPP – 4000 MW & Adani power – 4620 MW. It also caters to other coal trading businesses. West basin is being developed in phased manner. West basin’s infrastructure primarily envisages serving the requirements of industries in the SEZ and hinterland of Mundra port.

  • 4 nos of berth with total length of 1510 m, berths are designed to handle max ship size of 270,000 DWT vessels with (-) 19.0 m CD draft
  • 5 km long breakwater total rock quantity of 4.0 million MT approx
  • Total dredging volume – 36 million cum
  • Approach channel: 19 m CD deep & 320 m wide and 3700 m long
  • Turning circle: 19 m CD deep & 700 m dia
  • Yard storage capacity is 3.2 million tonnes

  • 6 nos. stacker reclaimers capacity of 6000 TPH stacking & 2500 TPH reclaiming & 2 nos. Re-claimer with 2500 TPH
  • 2 nos. rapid wagon loading facilities silo each capacity 4000 MT
  • 3 nos. truck loading facilities silos (bay for 7 lorries)
  • Conveyor system : receiving conveyor @ 6000 TPH capacity
