Howe Engineering Projects (India) Pvt. Ltd. (HEPIPL) is involved into Greenfield Port development at Mundra from its inception. Mundra Port has three multipurpose terminals with twelve numbers of berths. The berths are capable of handling various types of dry bulk, break bulk and liquid cargo. These berths are designed to handle vessels having draft of 15.5 m.

The Mundra port handles a multitude of commodities including steam coal, coking coal, fertilizers like urea, DAP, MOP, etc.; agricultural commodities like yellow peas, DOC, wheat, etc.; liquid cargo including crude oil, POL, chemicals, edible oil, etc.; containers, automobiles, steel cargo, project cargo and minerals.

Facilities at Berth

  • Nos. Ostwald and 12 nos. Libber mobile harbor cranes SWL 100 MT with hook and grab mode.
  • 2 rail-mounted mobile hoppers for direct discharge to import conveyors.
  • 10 mobile hoppers for direct discharge into dumpers.
  • 3.6 km conveyor system capable of handling 1,500 TPH of import as well as export cargo.

Equipment for Cargo Handling

Mundra port owns cargo handling equipment like mobile harbor cranes; grab ship loaders, pay loaders, excavators and conveyor system for handling of bulk and break-bulk cargo.

  • 1 of 1000 TPH ship loader.
  • 40 nos. excavators & 50 nos. loaders including 8 nos. CAT loaders.
  • 60 nos. 40 ft. trailers for internal transportation.

Steel Cargo/ Break-bulk Handling Facilities

  • 150,000 sq. m of dedicated storage area for various steel and project cargo.
  • Seven number of Goliath cranes, with multiple vacuum pipe lifting attachments to expedite yard operations for various steel products.
  • Libber mobile cranes: 2 nos. 25-tonne in hook mode & 15-tonne in pipe lifting attachment.
  • 02 nos. Libber  cranes with vacuum handling pipe attachments capable of handling 14 to 58 diameter pipes.
  • 4 nos. 32-tonnes and 2 nos. 45-tonnes lifting capacity forklifts with multiple attachments for handling steel coils, plates and slabs.

Liquid Handling Facilities

  • Equipped to handle and store crude, chemicals, edible oil with a pipeline network from jetty to storage terminal
  • Terminal houses 100 tanks of different specifications
  • Two SBM systems to handle Ultra Large Crude Carriers (ULCCs), with option to expand by two more

Facilities for Storage

The port has 225,000 sq. meters of closed go downs and 3,150,000 sq. meters of open storage yards for storage of imported or exported cargo within the port premises. It has also constructed mechanized bagging and loading facilities for efficient evacuation of cargo.

CLIENT:ADANI HAZIRA PORT PRIVATE LIMITED

LOCATION: HAZIRA, GUJARAT

PROJECT STATUS: OPERATIONAL SINCE 2012

Adani Hazira Port Private Limited (AHPPL) is developing bulk and general cargo handling facilities at Hazira Port in Gujarat on the west coast of India under sub-concession with Hazira Port Private Limited (HPPL). AHPPL has completed construction of 5 berths (2 container berths and 3 multipurpose berths) under Phase-I of the project. The cargo handling capacity under Phase-I is 35 MMTPA. AHPPL is planning to build total of 13 berths at Hazira port for handling general cargo, container and liquids which will increase its capacity to 84 MT per annum. The port started its operations in the 2012.

HOWE Projects has worked on this project from its RFP stage. It has provided technical bid advisory services to Adani Ports for its bid submission to Shell Hazira. After securing the bid, Adani group delegated responsibility of project management consultancy to HOWE Projects. The broad scope of HOWE includes from planning, engineering, estimation, commercial aspects, quality, construction supervision at site etc. HOWE Projects has worked on this project from its RFP stage. It has provided technical bid advisory services to Adani Ports for its bid submission to Shell Hazira. CLIENT:ADANI PETRONET (DAHEJ) PORT PVT. LTD.

LOCATION: DAHEJ, GUJARAT

PROJECT STATUS: OPERATIONAL SINCE 2010

Adani Petronet (Dahej) Port Pvt. Ltd. (APPPL): APPPL operates a Port in Dahej in Gujarat state under sub-concession with Petronet LNG Ltd for handling dry bulk and break bulk cargoes in pursuance to the concession granted by Government of Gujarat.

HOWE Role

HOWE Projects has worked significantly on development on Dahej port from its beginning. HOWE as a project management consultant has carried out several activities on behalf of its client to complete the coal terminal in a cost effective manner. Presently, the port has 2 berths with 17 meter draft having a capacity of 20 Million MT per annum. The port handled 2.14 million MT of cargo in 2011-12.

Salient Features

  • Two berth having length of 206 m & 219 m each & design to handle Panamax vessels (80,000 DWT)
  • Berth is connected to backup yard with 2.4 km long approach bund.
  • Top side jetty equipment’s are mobile harbour cranes, mobile hoppers with conveying system 4200 TPH rated capacity.

Adani Kandla Bulk Terminal Private Limited (AKBTPL) has signed concession agreement with the Kandla Port Trust to develop bulk terminal at Kandla. The dry bulk terminal will be located off Tekra near Tuna outside Kandla creek port on the west coast of India. The terminal will have a capacity to handle 20 million MT of cargo. It will handle cargo like coal, fertilizer, salt, minerals and other agri-products.

After winning of bid from authority, Adani group delegated the responsibility of project management consultancy to HOWE Projects for this project. This will be a mechanized terminal having

  • Four berth consists of 600 m x 60 m berthing structure to handle 2 vessels of 1,00,000 DWT in-front of jetty head and 2 vessels each of 75,000 DWT in rear side of jetty

HOWE Projects (India) Pvt.Limited has supported the development of the India’s largest coal import terminal at west basin in Mundra, Gujarat, India for APSEZ. HOWE has worked from its inception of project which includes surveys, site selection, feasibility, basic & detail engineering, estimation, procurement, contracts, and whole ambit of quality construction management.

This terminal has a 60 MMTPA capacity and is operational since 2010. This new coal terminal is built to cater to the coal needs of two mega power plants viz UMPP–4000 MW & Adani power–4620 MW. It also caters to other coal trading businesses. West basin is being developed in phased manner. West basin’s infrastructure primarily envisages serving the requirements of industries in the SEZ and hinterland of Mundra port.

Adani Mormugao Port Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (AMPTPL): AMPTPL has license for development and operations of 10 million MT coal import terminal on the west coast of India at Goa under concession from Mormugao Port Trust.

After winning of bid from authority, Adani group delegated the responsibility of project management consultancy to HOWE Projects. The broad scope of HOWE includes from planning, engineering, estimation, commercial aspects, quality, construction supervision at site etc.

Salient Features

-Infrastructure

  • Designing and constructing a new berth of 300m length in front of existing berth no. 7 and in line with existing berth No. 6A and 8 capable of handling cape size of vessels considering future dredging up to (-) 16.1 m
  • Reclaiming waterfront area (approximately 35100 m²) in front of existing berth No 7.
  • Developing a suitable stack yard adjacent to new berth no 7.
  • Designing and setting up the mechanized coal handling plant and machinery and equipment of required capacity including laying of tracks for equipment.
  • Installation of suitable equipment and facility of required capacity (rapid in motion wagon loading) for evacuation of coal by rails.
  • Installation of suitable equipment and facility (truck loading system) of at least 1 million tons per annum for evacuation of coal by road.
  • Dredging shall be carried out alongside of the new berth no 7 and navigational channel in the water area of approximately 41000 m². The initial required depth alongside new berth no. 7 shall be (-)14.5m CD.
  • The plant shall be designed to the highest environmental standards using latest dust suppression technology.
  • The facility shall provide electronic data transfer facility and interface with port ERP system wherever required.

CLIENT:ADANI VIZAG COAL TERMINAL PVT. LTD.

LOCATION: VISHAKHAPATNAM PORT, ANDHRA PRADESH

Adani Vizag Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (AVCTPL): AVCTPL has license for development and operations of 7 million MT coal import terminal on the east coast of India at Vizag under concession from Visakhapatnam Port Trust.

HOWE Projects has worked on this PPP project from its RFP stage. HOWE provided technical bid advisory services to Adani group for its bid submission to authority. Once after winning of bid from authority, Adani group delegate the responsibility of Project Management Consultancy to HOWE Projects. The broad scope of HOWE includes from planning, engineering, estimation, commercial aspects, quality, construction supervision at site etc.

Berth development of 280 m with draft of – 16.1 m CD. The berth will be designed to handle vessels up to -80,000 DWT.

The liquid terminal consists of 100 tanks of different sizes and attributes with a total storage capacity of 0.5 million kilolitres for storage of various liquid commodities. Mundra Port is one of the most facilitated ports for the offloading and warehousing of liquid cargo.

The terminal is designed to handle various types of cargo such as edible oil, petrochemicals, POL, and bitumen etc.

LOCATION: MUNDRA GUJARAT

HOWE Project has set up its first SPM (single point mooring) at Mundra in Kutch for Mundra Port. This SPM is located at a depth of 32 m; it can accommodate VLCC (very large crude carriers) of upto 360,000 DWT (dead weight tonnage) to berth at the port.

It is designed for discharge rate of over 10000 CBM/hour. This SPM is connected to IOCL tank farms by subsea cement coated 48” pipeline (11,330 meters). This pipeline is onward connected to Panipat & Bhatinda for transportation of crude oil to refineries

Jetty Facilities

Three numbers of multipurpose berths have been developed in the Phase-I at Hazira Port. These berths have multiproduct pipelines. The terminal is equipped to handle and store crude, chemicals, edible oil with a pipeline network from jetty to storage terminal. In the Phase-I, terminal has 83 tanks of different specifications in Phase-I with capacity of 0.2 million KL.

In the future plan, it is planned that tank farm consisting of 19 enclosures with 254 tanks with maximum capacity of 1 million KL. State-of-the-art automated loading and discharging systems is being installed at Hazira Port. 30 loading bays for tanker Lorries with tank wise dedicated pumps are provided for faster turnaround of the road tankers.

The steel yard is a dedicated steel storage area spread over 150,000 sq. metres and consists of latest equipment for handling steel cargo. The steel yard is equipped with 8 Goliath cranes and 2 mobiles cranes with vacuum lift attachments, 6 forklifts with multiple attachments to handle steel coils, slabs and plates, 1 reach stacker and 60 trailers for internal transportation.

HOWE Projects has provided project management consultancy services for development of RO-RO terminal to Mundra Port and SEZ. This terminal is designed for handling of automobiles. This terminal has a floating pontoon and link-span facilities for export of cars. This terminal has pre-dispatch storage capacity of 20,000 cars and buffer yard of 2,000 cars. This terminal is located in existing Mundra Port and it is operational since 2008.
